There are twenty different question types, each assessing one language skill or a combination of language skills. Most of the items (question types) assess more than one skill. The table below shows the skills assessed in each item.
There are two types of scoring: Correct or Incorrect and Partial Credit
For items that fall in this category, you will receive maximum score points if your response is correct. If your response is incorrect, you will receive no score points.
For items that fall in this category, your response is scored as correct, partially correct, or incorrect. If your response is correct, then you will receive maximum score points. If your response is partially correct, you will receive score points, which is less than the maximum score points. If your response is incorrect, you receive no score points.

**For these item types in PTE Academic, points are deducted for wrong answers. This deduction is NOT applicable to any other items.
PTE Academic reports three score: Overall score, Communicative skills scores, and Enabling skills scores
The overall score is calculated based on the performance of all the test items. This score ranges from 10 to 90 points.
Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking are the Communicative skills measured on the PTE Academic. If an item assesses more than one skill, then the score of this item contributes to the score for each of the communicative skills. For example, if an item assesses both listening and speaking skills, then the score of this item contribute to the score for listening skill and for speaking skill. Each Communicative skills score ranges from 10 to 90 points.
Grammars, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling, Vocabulary, Written discourse are the enabling skills measured on the PTE Academic. Items that assess enabling skills contribute to the enabling skills scores. The score range of each enabling skill is 10 to 90 points.
